Did you know that the Revyle Castle was home of Grace O'Marlley, the legendary Irish pirate queen?
This 13-14th century Tower House ruin stands on the northwestern-most point of Connemara, county Galway. The NE corner of the four-story castle has fallen making the structure unsafe for much exploration. The SE corner contained a spital stairway and the western side of the tower contained great halls while the eastern side smaller rooms.
The origin of this castle seems in mystery. It is known as an O'Flaherty Castle after he took it from the Joyce Clan. The O'Flaherty clan was one of the oldest and most powerful Gaelic clans in Connaught. The castle was the home of Donal O'Flaherty and Grace O'Malley after they married in 1546. Grace returned to O'Mhaille territory in Mayo after the marriage ended.
There is beautifull views up there across the Atlantic Ocean to county Mayo and even Donegal. If you are looking for some place to stay, I recommend The Olde Castle B & B Renvyle. There is a really nice breakfast and it is just few steps from the century Tower House. I stayed there for a night with my family!
I hope you can enjoy too!!!
Have you ever been stung by a bee? I have been twice and praise God I didn't have deadly feeling, however for some people can really be overwhelmed! Bees are insects with wings closely related to wasps and ants, known for their role in pollination and for producing honey. Bee pollination is important both ecologically and commercially. Crops such as apples, strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, blackcurrants, peppers, courgettes and pumpkins are reliant on bees for pollination. Some plants rely on insect pollinators, of which bees are most important. Save our bees!
